Fitting In
It’s not exactly rocket science but fitting in after you have gained weight can be a problem. Now I know that no one wants to hear me moan about my weight again but sometimes you just have to vent. There are all kinds of reasons fitting in- in my present condition is complicated but none as complicated as being between blessings at the moment if you know what I mean. These days I don’t dress by desire but by possibility. This means that whatever can fit me today, that I didn’t wear yesterday, or this Sunday that wasn’t already worn last Sunday is up. I try my best to match but it is not always possible- however folks have learned over the years that I have my own style, which I honed during my days of less than enough to get by. Still, as a leader I do represent a lot of people so I have to buckle down and try not to embarrass them too much.
I had come to a peek at two hundred and twenty pounds for a little while. That’s when I started walking twice a day and pushing myself to the limit. After a while it became routine even if at first nothing happened, and I even started to enjoy the process. Then came my vacation to Hawaii where I hit the gym every day, adding weights to my routine. The problem with exercise comes when you have to stop for a while making the adjustment to it even more difficult.
You know you are not fitting in when people are looking sideways at you to take a secret look at the way you are dressed. The way your pant legs get shorter as you get wider, or the pressure of your girt against pants waist that are now to small; how your pants ride up between your legs and stays there. I lost seven pounds at one stage and them poof, I gained ten, blowing my peek weight without notice. It seemed I had stopped walking for just a moment, but I guess it was a couple of weeks, but still so quick. The point is that discipline, perseverance and temperance are the keys to overcoming obstacles and fulfilling purpose. These are very powerful yet overlooked elements of the fruit of the spirit.
You know, we really should not get worked up about all these little things. Instead of being content we create discomfort in our lives, even when things are good. I know you are wondering the same thing having spent your time reading about the trials of a man carrying on about something so mundane. Come to think of it, I feel a little ashamed sitting here this morning writing about fitting into my clothes!
